LeVar Burton is an American actor, director, and executive producer, best known for his role as Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge in the iconic series Star Trek: The Next Generation. Born in Landstuhl, West Germany, LeVar grew up in Sacramento, California. He developed a passion for acting at a young age and landed his first major role as Kunta Kinte in the ground-breaking miniseries Roots at the age of 20. His portrayal of Kunta Kinte earned him critical acclaim and a lasting place in television history.

LeVar’s role as Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation solidified his status as a beloved actor. LeVar’s performance brought depth and humanity to the character, earning him a dedicated fan base. He would of course continue the television role into the films and the incredibly popular third season of Star Trek: Picard, reuniting with the “command crew” of the Enterprise-D.  Behind the Star Trek camera, LeVar has directed more episodes across the various series than any other cast member.

Beyond his work in Star Trek, LeVar has had a prolific career in television and film. He hosted and executive-produced the long-running educational program Reading Rainbow, which encouraged children to explore the joys of reading. The show won numerous awards, including multiple Emmy Awards, and remains a cherished part of many people’s childhoods.
